Taposh Warns WASA of Actions for Dumping Waste on Streets

Issuing a warning note, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Fazle Noor Taposh said today that the City Authority would take tougher action against the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) if it dumps waste from sewer lines on the streets.

"You can't leave garbage on the streets or in open spaces after cleaning the sewer lines .... you'll be charged and legal proceedings would be taken against you if you do," Taposh said while inaugurating the year-long sewer line cleaning system in the Muktijoddha Sangsad area, a press release said.

Mentioning that the cleansing activities of sewerage lines will be carried out throughout the year, he said, “All the sewerage lines in each ward will be cleaned twice a month.”

"If the sewage lines get jammed anywhere, overflows, and whether there's water pollution anywhere, let the city corporation know via the respective councilors ... and if you can't fix it, let me know personally," he said, reminding residents to be diligent and get the facilities from the DSCC, added the release.

Haji Mohammad Selim, MP, DSCC Chief Executive Officer of City Corporation Shah Imdadul Haque, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Badrul Amin, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Dr Md Sharif Ahmed, DSCC Secretary Akramuzzaman, Councilors of Wards 22 and 33, among others, were present.
