Dhaka’s Air Quality Improves

Bangladesh 's capital Dhaka ranked 7th worst in the world in the Air Quality Index ( AQI) on Tuesday morning.

The air in Dhaka was labeled as 'moderate' in the morning and the megacity had an AQI score of 97 at 09:58.

When the AQI remains between 51 and 100, there may be a danger to those individuals who might be unusually sensitive to particle pollution.

Nevertheless, the quality of the air is acceptable.

Afghanistan's Kabul, China's Beijing and Pakistan's Lahore ranked the top three in the list of cities with the worst air quality, with AQI scores of 140, 137 and 124, respectively.

AQI, an index for the measurement of everyday air quality, informs people how healthy or unhealthy the environment in a given area is and what health consequences can be of interest to them.

In Bangladesh, the AQI is based on five criteria pollutants – Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2, and Ozone (O3).

Bangladesh has a subtropical monsoon climate marked by large seasonal fluctuations in precipitation, high temperatures and humidity.

Dhaka 's air starts to get fresh when the rain starts in mid-June. The weather stays usually appropriate through the monsoon season from June to October.
