Bangladesh Reports 44 More Deaths; 3201 New Cases in 24hrs

Bangladesh today confirmed 44 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 3,201 new infections tested in 14,245 samples in the last 24 hours.

As a result, the death rate of the lethal virus rose to 2,096 and the total number of infections reached 165,618.

Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure available today during a virtual briefing.

According to the gender-based study of Covid-19 cases, about 1,657 people who died from Covid-19 are male and 439 are female, respectively 79.05 percent and 20.95 percent.

"Some 15,201 samples have been collected in the last 24 hours and 14,245 samples have been tested in 68 laboratories across the country. 860,307 samples have been tested so far," she added.

In addition, 3,524 patients recovered over time, increasing the number to 76,149.

Approximately 45.98 percent of new coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have so far recovered in Bangladesh, while 1.27% have died.

The most recent day's infection incidence was 22.47 percent of the total samples, while the average rate in the nation to date was 19.25 percent.

Currently, 63,801 people are quarantined throughout the country, including 2,178 newly quarantined individuals. A total of 315,369 people have finished their quarantine preparation.

The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people in 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 677 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 16,794 after 14,755 left."

As many as 14,907,454 hotline health services were given by 16,414 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 160,178 in the last 24-hour till 8am today. 

To date , a total of 744,039 thermal screenings were conducted at various terminals, including 1,460 at three international airports, 127 at seaports and 123 at land terminals in the last 24 hours.

According to the data received by the Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD), the Government has obtained 2,528,245 personal protective equipment ( PPE) of which 2,421,764 have been issued and 106,481 remain in storage.

Dr Nasima further added that the number of general beds dedicated to Covid-19 treatment in Dhaka city and countrywide are respectively 6,075 and 14,775, while the ICU beds count for 149 in Dhaka metropolitan and 401 in the whole country. There are 11,785 oxygen cylinders, 202 high-flow nasal cannula and 106 oxygen concentrator available across the country.

Nevertheless, there are reportedly just 4,449 general beds and 220 ICU beds reserved by patients undergoing Covid-19 care throughout the world.

The virus has destroyed 537,047 people globally and has infected 11,572,119 individuals so far.
