BD Appreciates Malaysia’s Initiatives on Migrant Workers’ Issues

The Government of Bangladesh is highly appreciative of the Malaysian Government's efforts to find a constructive solution to the problems faced by its migrant workers in the country, said its High Commission in Malaysia, Malaysia's Bernama report.

It said that the measures, including the reallocation of workers to other firms and the opening of space for the legalization of detainees and illegal workers, are direct signs of the positive will of the Malaysian Government towards foreign workers in the Southeast Asian country.

“Our citizens residing in Malaysia are also thankful for the assistance and initiatives taken for their benefit throughout the movement control order (MCO) period including the recent initiatives,” said the High Commission in a reply statement to Malaysia’s state-owned news agency.

The High Commission also said that the Government of Bangladesh appreciates the commitment of the Malaysian Government to counter and tackle the global threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This said that collaboration between the two sides has made it possible for the High Commission to ensure a safe stay for its people in Malaysia.

“Malaysia has been very proactive in containing the Covid-19 situation. They have encouraged everyone, including citizens and foreigners, to come forward for the Covid-19 tests. Any foreigner tested positive have been assisted with quarantine by the Malaysian government,” it said.

The High Commission said that, in addition to being in regular touch with the relevant department in Malaysia, it has also received a constructive response to requests for access to hospitals and detention centers to offer consular facilities to its citizens.

The Joint Cooperation between the High Commission and the relevant Malaysian authorities to assist Bangladeshi nationals affected by the enhanced movement control order in the Malayan Mansion, Selangor Mansion and Plaza City 1 is a good example of friendly cooperation between the two countries.

With direct cooperation from the Malaysian government, it has been able to repatriate stranded Bangladeshi nationals during the Covid-19 period. The arrangement is still ongoing, it added.

The High Commission also shared its profound appreciation for the strong and excellent bilateral relations enjoyed by the two fraternal nations in numerous fields, including commerce, education , culture, science and technology.
