The voting in the Bogura-1 and Jashore-6 constituencies elections began on Tuesday morning amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The polling has started at 9:00 am and will continue until 5:00 pm without any break.

The EC asked voters to exercise their franchise, elected officers and law enforcement authorities to fulfill their roles while enforcing safety standards.

Six candidates run in Bogura-1, while three run in Jashore-6. There are contenders from three major political parties – the Bangladesh Awami League, the BNP and the Jatiya Party – in both parties' by-elections.

There are 330,918 voters and 123 polling stations in the Bogura-1 by-polls, while 204,397 voters are expected to exercise their franchise at 79 polling stations in Jashore-6 by-election.

Jessore-6 and Bogra-1, which fell vacant following the death of Awami League MPs Ismat Ara Sadique and Abdul Mannan respectively, were supposed to go to polls on March 29 according to the election schedules announced initially.

However, the EC had to delay the election schedule in the aftermath of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The EC recently declared a revised timetable for the legislative by-elections to be conducted on 14 July for casting votes.
