Buriganga Launch Capsize: Mayur-2 Master on 3-Day Remand

A Dhaka court on Tuesday put Abul Bashar Mollah, Master of Mayur-2, a three-day remand in connection with the launch capsize in the Buriganga River last month.

The accident of June 29 took the lives of 34 men.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Dhaka AFM Maruf Chowdhury issued the order after Sub-Inspector Shahidul Alam of River Police and even the Investigator of the case took him to trial with a ten-day remand prayer.

Additional Public Prosecutor of Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Anwarul Kabir Babul confirmed the information to the media.

Earlier on Sunday, Abul was detained from South Keraniganj.

Thirty-four people were killed when a small launch, named ML Morning Bird, sank in the Buriganga, after much larger Mayur-2, while being in reverse, horrifically smashed into it near Farashganj Ghat in Dhaka on June 29.
