Moyur-2 Engine Drivers on 4-Day Remand

A Dhaka court remanded on Wednesday two engine drivers of MV Moyur-2, launch that rammed and drowned ML Morning Bird, killing its 34 passengers on June 29, in a negligent death case filed over that tragic incident.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Fairuj Tasnim placed accused Shipon Hawlader and Shakil on four-day remand each as investigation officer and sub-inspector Shahidul Alam of Sadarghat River Police Station pleaded for seven-day police remand, reports BSS.

Police arrested the duo from the capital's Sutrapur area this morning.

Sub-inspector Mohammad Shamsul Alam of Sadarghat River Police Station filed the case on June 30 with Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station. Police filed the case under Sections 280, 304 (Ka), 437, and 34 of the Penal Code.

Moyur-2 of Dhaka-Chandpur route rammed into ML Morning Bird, coming from Munshiganj, in the Shyambazar area in the Buriganga River, drowning the smaller launch within moments in the morning of June 29.
