JKG Chairman Dr Sabrina Denied Bail, Sent to Jail

On Monday, the Dhaka court rejected the plea of bail of JKG Health Care Chairman Dr. Sabrina Arif Chowdhury—also a suspended government employee—in connection with a case lodged on the topic of fake Covid-19 reports.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam issued the order after Sabrina 's lawyer submitted a petition seeking her bail.

Earlier, Md Liakot Ali, a police detective inspector (DB) and also an investigating officer (IO) of the case, lodged her with his court on expiry of a 2-day warrant.

On July 17, Sabrina was put on a fresh remand for 2 days at the conclusion of her 3-day remand in the same case.

Sabrina was shown to have been detained in a case lodged with the Tejgaon Police Station on 12 July after the police considered her argument regarding the charges 'unsatisfactory' during the investigation.

Following her arrest, the Ministry of Health removed her from the position of NICVD Registrar for violating the rules.

The case was filed on June 23 against six people, including JKG Health Care’s Chief Executive Officer Ariful Chowdhury, also husband of Dr Sabrina, for providing fake Covid-19 test reports.

On June 24, the police arrested her husband and JKG Chief Executive Officer Ariful Chowdhury and four others for their alleged participation in the issuing of fake Covid test reports.

Sabrina, however, said that she no longer had any relations with JKG. She has submitted a letter of divorce to her husband, Dr. Ariful Chowdhury.
