Fake N95 Mask: Sharmin Jahan Denied Bail

A Dhaka court has sent Sharmin Jahan, proprietor of Aparajita International, to jail after rejecting her bail petition in a case filed for supplying fake N95 masks to the corona unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court passed the order on Tuesday after she was produced before it after completion of a three-day remand.

Earlier on Friday, DB police arrested Sharmin Jahan, who was sacked recently by the authorities of Dhaka University from the post of the assistant registrar, from the capital's Shahbag area after BSMMU Proctor Prof Syed Mozaffar Ahmed filed a case against her with Shahbagh Police Station on Thursday night.

BSMMU authorities recently found some substandard and fake N95 masks, while providing those to doctors treating the Covid-19 patients.

During further inspection, the hospital authorities found some more fake N95 masks in the third consignment supplied by Aparajita International.

According to sources, Sharmin is a member of Awami League's Central Sub-Committee on Women and Children.

Previously, she was a leader of the Chhatra League during her studentship at Dhaka University's Department of Islamic Studies and at Netrokona College.
