136 Business Houses Fined for Adulteration

As the part of authorities’ move to stop selling adulterated food items and goods and free the consumers from clutches of unscrupulous traders, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Tuesday fined 133 business establishments across the country almost 6.81 lakh.

DNCRP in Dhaka city, Chattagram city, Gopalganj, Jamalpur, Narshingdi, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Tangail, Rajbari, Narayanganj, Madaripur, Kishoreganj, Shariatpur, Cumilla, Feni, Laxmipur, Coxs’ Bazar, Rajshahi, Sirajganj, Chapainawabganj, Bogra, Naogaon, Khulna, Bagerhat, Kushtia, Jhenaidah, Meherpur, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Panchagarh, Dinajpur and inspected different markets and fined the business establishments, a release said today.

In a drive, DNCRP fined different business establishments located in the city’s Mohammadpur, Hajaribag, Adabar and Jigatola areas and fined them taka 50,000.

In another drive, DNCRP officials fined and realized taka 6,19,000 from 130 shops across the country for selling the goods at a higher price than the market price for not showing the price list, for selling goods without any MRP seal and expired food items and for making food products at an unhealthy place, it added.

Besides, two companies were fined 12 thousand taka for cheating customers while weighing products and for selling the goods at a higher price than the market price and 25 percent of the fine were paid to the two complainants immediately.
