Vikram Doraiswami Next Indian Envoy to Bangladesh

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially named Vikram Kumar Doraiswami as Bangladesh's next high commissioner.

Doraiswami is currently an additional secretary at the ministry. He is expected to take up the assignment soon, the MEA said on Thursday, reports UNB.

Doraiswami previously served as the Indian ambassador to Korea. He was posted in Uzbekistan too, reports the Hindustan Times.

He joined Foreign Service of India (IFS) in 1992. He used to work as a journalist before entering Government Service.

Doraiswami has a Masters degree in history from Delhi University. He can converse in Chinese and Urdu, and even knows a little bit of French as well, according to Hindustan Times.

Doraiswami will replace Riva Ganguly Das, the 1986 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS).

Das, who replaced Harsh Vardhan Shringla as the Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, arrived in Dhaka on March 1 last year to take up her assignment.

She is likely to leave Dhaka in the first week of October.
