Rayhan Kabir Returns Home from Malaysia

Bangladeshi migrant Rayhan Kabir, who was arrested after participating in the Al Jazeera documentary, was deported from Malaysia to Bangladesh.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 196, carrying Rayhan, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12:55 a.m. on Saturday. His father, Shah Alam, broke down in tears when he had found his beloved son at the airport.

Earlier, Rayhan was taken by immigration officers to Kuala Lumpur International Airport at about 9 p.m. (Malaysian time) on Friday to board a scheduled flight at 11 p.m. (Malaysian time).

Al Jazeera released an investigative documentary on 3 July. This addressed the issue of the government's discriminatory treatment of migrant workers in Malaysia during the lock-up. Within the video, along with the people of several other nations, Rayhan also gave an interview that angered the Malaysian authorities.

A warrant has been released against Rayhan Kabir. He was detained by the Malaysian police on the night of July 24. Upon 14 days of questioning, the police took him to trial on 8 August. The judge issued a 13-day warrant because the police requested a 14-day warrant. After the remand finished Wednesday, the police said there were no charges against him.
