Arms Case: Indictment Hearing against Papia, Her Husband Today

A Dhaka court is set to hold a hearing on charges against Bangladeshi forcibly expelled Awami Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon on Sunday. 

The hearing will be held in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes.

Earlier on 18 August, the court fixed a hearing on the framing proceedings against the two accused in the arms case on 23 August.

On 29 June, Investigation Officer (IO) and RAB Sub-Inspector Arifuzzaman lodged an indictment against the pair in the case, making 12 people witnesses.

Earlier on 22 February, a Rapid Action Battalion team arrested Papia and her husband, along with two of their accomplices, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with counterfeit money, foreign currency and cash.

Later, RAB searched their two luxury apartments in the capital's Indira Road district and seized a foreign weapon, two weapons, 20 rounds of ammunition, five bottles of international beer, and more than $5.84 million in currency, among other items.
