Holy Ashura Being Observed

Holy Ashura is being celebrated in the world today with proper respect and religious solemnity, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali (RA), grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad ( PBUH).

It's the 10th day of the month of Muharram in the Hijri calendar. Muslims around the world remember the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) along with his family members and 72 followers, who accepted martyrdom in 680 AD to preserve reality and justice in the war with the soldiers of Yazid at Karbala Maidan in Iraq.

During the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, a short program has been introduced to observe the day around the country.

On this occasion, the police have taken special security steps in the capital.

The day is a public holiday.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police forbade all sorts of tazia, mourning and pike processions in the metropolitan region of Dhaka on the occasion of the holy Ashura.

However, conscientious city-dwellers would be required to conduct a ritual practice in line with the laws of health.

However, the possession of knives, daggers, guns, axes, swords, sticks and the show of fireworks and crackers is strictly forbidden in these ceremonies.

Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels transmit special programs while newspapers and online news outlets post updates highlighting the relevance of the day.
