Lower Courts to Start Regular Operation from Aug 5

Lower courts across the country will commence operations on a regular basis as of 5 August, more than four months after the government has announced national holidays and consequently restricted operations to counter the outbreak of deadly coronavirus (Covid-19).

In a recent notification, the apex court said the decision was taken by the chief justice after discussing the matter with the senior judges of the Supreme Court, reports BSS.

The notification signed by the Supreme Court Registrar General Md Ali Akbar claimed that all legal, criminal and court proceedings would begin on a routine basis with a physical presence on 5 August.

"When working routinely in civil courts, criminal courts, and tribunals, they are all guided to obey the instructions of the Supreme Court with respect to security steps at court premises and in courtrooms," the notification stated.

In order to avoid the transmission of Covid-19, the government announced a general holiday from 26 March to 30 May. Earlier courts continued to work on a restricted basis and in compliance with the procedure guidelines provided by the apex court.
