Mild Heat Wave Sweeping over Bangladesh

A mild heat wave is spreading through parts of the country, including Dhaka, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said Monday.

Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions and the regions of Sandwip, Sitakundu, Rangamati, Feni, Chandpur, M Court are hit by the heat wave, said the Met Office, reports UNB.

“It may continue,” the weather bulletin said.

Monsoon trough axis passes across Panjab, Hariyana, Uttar Pradesh , Bihar, West Bengal to Assam through southern Bangladesh. According to the Met Office, one of the related troughs stretches to the North Bay.

Monsoon is relatively strong in the southern part of Bangladesh and less strong elsewhere in Bangladesh and marginally active in the North Bay.

In a 24-hour forecast, the Met Office reported that mild to moderate rain or thunderstorms, followed by temporary gusts of wind, are likely to occur in several locations across the Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions, and in a few locations across Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with relatively strong to severe falls in areas across the country in the next 24 hours starting today from 6 p.m.

The day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Today’s highest temperature 38.2 degrees Celsius was recorded at Jashore while the lowest 26C at Kutubdia and Rangamati.

Besides, the highest 55mm rainfall was recorded at Kutubdia.
