The probe committee has begun investigating the death of retired Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in police shooting.

Additional Divisional Commissioner Mizanur Rahman, head of the Investigation Committee, has already arrived at Cox's Bazar.

The Home Ministry's public security department has asked to submit the report within seven days.

Earlier on Friday night, Sinha was killed in police firing in Cox's Bazar Marine Drive.

Sources at the police said Sinha was heading to Cox's Bazaar Teknaf with some other persons in his personal car. When police officers at the Baharchhara Marine Drive checkpoint stopped the car to search it, he attempted to stop the police and made a verbal argument with them.

At one point, Sinha tried to pull out his pistol, sources said, adding that the police shot him at that point.

Critically wounded, he was rushed to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the doctors had declared him dead on arrival. The autopsy was done at noon on Saturday.
