Irregularities in Health Sector:

ACC Interrogates Ex-DGHS DG Azad

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started to interrogate five suspects, including former Director-General of the Directorate-General for Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, on various scams and irregularities in the health sector.

The five accused entered the ACC headquarters at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the information to media.

The four others accused are Former Director of the Department of Health Dr. Md Aminul Hasan, Deputy Director Yunus Ali, Dr. Md Shafiur Rahman, and research officer Md Didarul Islam.

We are accused of their supposed participation in the N95 mask fraud and of corruption in the arrangement concluded between Regent Hospital and DGHS.

Earlier on 21 July, DGHS DS Dr. Abul Kalam Azad resigned in the face of accusations of corruption and mismanagement in the health sector.

In the meantime, several cases of mismanagement and corruption in the health sector have been revealed as doctors in some government hospitals, including Mugda General Hospital, complained of providing low-quality masks and protective gear.

Then the issuance of fake Covid-19 certificates by some hospitals triggered huge criticisms at home and abroad.
