Country Observing National Mourning Day Honouring Pranab Mukherjee

Bangladesh is observing one-day national mourning in honour of Pranab Mukherjee, India's first Bengali president and Bangladesh's 'true friend,' following his death on Monday.

The national flag in all state buildings will fly at half-mast on Wednesday, according to a press release.

Special prayers will also be offered at the places of worship concerned throughout the country.

Bangladesh High Commission in India will hold a special condolence meeting today to remember Pranab, the real friend of Bangladesh.

84-year-old Pranab Mukherjee breathed his last on Monday after fighting for life for 21 days at a hospital in New Delhi.

The Indian Government and many states have declared seven days of official mourning.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also expressed deep condolences for the death of former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.
