Bangladesh Logs 29 More Deaths from COVID-19

Bangladesh has confirmed 29 more deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours till 8 a.m. on Friday.

The country's death toll from the deadly virus is now at 4,412, read a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Over the 24-hour period, 1,929 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country is now 321,615.

The latest day's infection rate is 14.76 percent of the total tests, while the overall rate in the country to date is 20.04 percent and the death rate is 1.37 percent.

Of the deceased patients, 22 were men and seven were women. Of the dead: 14 came from Dhaka, four from Rajshahi, three from Barishal, two from Chattogram, Khulna, Rangpur, and Mymensingh.

Twenty-seven died in different hospitals across the country, while two died at their homes.

And during a 24-hour period, 2,211 patients were pronounced free of the novel coronavirus, the total number of recoveries reached 216,191 and the recovery rate became 67,22%.

During this time, some 13,369 samples were collected and 13,073 samples were checked in 93 laboratories throughout the country. To date, 16,05,111 samples have been tested.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims reveals that 3,454 or 78.29 percent of the total patients were men, and 958 or 21.71 percent were women.

Division-wise, the fatalities are as follows: 2,134 victims hailed from the Dhaka division, 952 from Chattogram, 295 from Rajshahi, 365 from Khulna, 172 from Barishal, 197 from Sylhet, 202 from Rangpur, and 95 from Mymensingh division.

Bangladesh confirmed its first Covid-19 cases on March 8, while the first death was logged ten days later on March 18.

As of Friday, 873,470 people have died from coronavirus infection and 26,486,344 have been infected globally, according to worldometer data.
