Bir Shreshtha Nur Mohammad’s Death Anniversary Tomorrow

The 49th anniversary of Bir Shreshtha Lance Nayek Nur Mohammad Sheikh's death will be celebrated here tomorrow.

To mark the day, the Bir Shreshtha Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust and the Narail District Administration have taken elaborate porograms from the Chandibarpur Union in Sadar Upazila, reports BSS.

The programmes include the recitation of the Holy Quran, the placement of wreaths in the portrait of Bir Shreshtha Nur Mohammad Sheik, the presentation of the guard of honour and the holding of Doa Mahfil.

Deputy Commissioner Anjuman Ara, also President of Bir Shreshtha Nur Muhammad Trust, will be present as Chief Guest at the doa mahfil. Nur Muhammad Sheik was born on 26 February 1936 in the then Mahiskhol village, now known as Nur Mohammad Nagar, in the Narail district.

He served in the East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) then known as Bangladesh Rifles after the independence of Bangladesh, which is now the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB).

Nur Mohammad Sheikh was awarded the highest military decoration for sacrificing his life by taking part in the battle in Goalhati and Chuitpur in Jashore against the Pakistani occupying forces on 5 September 1971.
