Sahed’s Arms Case Verdict on Sept 28

A tribunal in Dhaka has fixed 28 September to deliver the verdict in an arms case against Mohammad Shahed, chairman of the Regent Group.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Emrul Kayes has set the date on Sunday for the trial to be concluded within seven working days.

Before that, defense attorneys today concluded their claims and demanded that their client be convicted of the case.

The prosecution concluded arguments on September 17 and requested the maximum sentence in the case (life in jail).

On August 27, the same court indicted Shahed in the case.

On the 19th of July, Shahed led the DB on a special drive to an abandoned car on Sonargaon Janapath Road in Uttara. DB Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten said that a pistol, a bullet, a magazine, 10 bottles of phensedyl, and five bottles of liquor were recovered.

Later, under the Narcotics Control Act and Arms Act, the detectives filed two cases with the Uttara West police against Shahed.

On July 6, law enforcement officers raided Regent Hospital's Mirpur and Uttara branches and found the hospital issued bogus Covid-19 certificates to patients and charged unreasonable fees for admitted patients there.

The offices of the Regent Group and both hospital branches were sealed off and 16 individuals were sued on charges of issuing fraudulent coronavirus test results, including the chairman.
