Choreographer Ivan Shahriar Sohag on 7-Day Remand

On Monday, a Dhaka court placed choreographer Ivan Shahriar Sohag on a seven-day remand in a case of human trafficking filed with the Lalbagh Police Station on July 2. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara passed the order after CID produced him before it with a 7-day remand prayer.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Sohag in the case on September 11, from the Niketon area.

Earlier, after trafficking them as tourists, the CID detained the ringleader and two other members of the human trafficking ring that forced young women into prostitution in Dubai.

The ringleader was identified as Azam. During interrogation, Azam gave some information on ‘his cohorts.’

The CID said the involvement of Sohag was found in sex trafficking as per the statement of Azam.

In Dubai, the ringleader Azam has four hotels — Hotel Fortune Royal, Fortune Grand Hotel, City Tower Hotel and Fortune Pearl Hotel and Dance Club. The first three of these are four-star standard.

Azam trafficked more than 1,000 women in the last eight years, luring them into jobs with payment of up to Tk 50,000 per month.
