Members of the Hijra or third gender community in Sherpur Sadar Upazila on Wednesday demanded training and respectable jobs that will help them contribute to the country's economy.
Hijra Kalyan Songstha organized a discussion programme at Sherpur Government College in the morning.
Leaders of the community said they live a miserable life as they don't have any employment.
They have to beg to earn a living although they have the right to lead a normal life as other commoners in society.
Additional Superintendent of Police Aminul Islam, who attended the program, said: ''We want to organize training for a member of the third gender community for regular jobs and provide them with government benefits.''
But they must have interest and initiatives regarding this, he added.
Bangladesh officially recognized Hijras as the third gender in November 2013.
