Mahbubey Alam's Namaz-e-Janaza Held at Supreme Court Compound

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam's namaz-e-janaza has been held.

Janaza took place in the compound of the Supreme Court about 11:35 a.m. on Monday.

Later in the day, in the Mirpur Intellectuals Graveyard, the country's longest-serving attorney general will rest forever.

Earlier, the body was brought to his Minister’s Apartment residence at Eskaton from Dhaka's Combined Military Hospital’s mortuary.

Alam breathed his last on Sunday evening at the CMH where he was being treated for COVID-19.

He was admitted to CMH on September 4 after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

After his pulse rate rose, Mahbubey Alam was first moved to the Intensive Care Unit ( ICU) on September 18, but two days later, his family members said he was improving.

Earlier in the day, he was put on ventilator support at the CMH intensive care unit ( ICU). On September 4, Mahbubey Alam was admitted to a high-temperature hospital and tested positive for coronavirus later on.

On September 18, he was moved to the ICU after his condition worsened.

He left behind his wife, a journalist son, lawyer daughter and lawyer son-in-law and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn the death.

Mahbubey Alam took over as top law officer of the country in 2009.

Hailing from Munshiganj's Lauhajang Upazila, Alam was registered as a lawyer in 1975. He held numerous important roles, including that of the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

He played an important role in the prosecution of war criminals, leading to the execution of many senior leaders of Jamaat and several of the other groups.

He also showed efficiency in the appeal hearing on the Bangabandhu murder and Jail Killing cases.

The apex court won landmark judgments for his magnificent role in the hearing on petitions challenging the 5th, 7th and 13th amendments to the constitution.

He also moved sensational cases to the lower court. He was one of the few Supreme Court lawyers to have moved the historic rape case of Purnima to Sirajganj court.
