MC College Gang Rape: Another Accused Put On Remand

Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, an accused in Sylhet MC College gang rape case, was put on a five-day remand by a Sylhet court on Wednesday, UNB reports.

The order was passed by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abul Kashem when Inspector Indranil Bhattacharya of Shahporan Police Station, also the case investigation officer, produced him with a seven-day remand prayer before the court.

DB police and Kanaighat police arrested Masum from Haripur in Jaintiapur upazila on Monday during a joint drive.

On Tuesday, a Sylhet court held three accused-Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Rajon, and Ainuddin-on five-day remand in each of the cases. On Monday, Saifur Rahman, the prime accused, Arjun Lashkar and Robiul Islam were put on five-day remand.

A group of youths tied a man up and raped his 19-year-old wife on Friday night in the MC College dormitory.

After police rescued the pair, in the early hours of Saturday, the victim's husband filed a case at the Shahporan Police Station against nine individuals who mentioned the names of six.

All the accused in the case are currently in police custody.

In addition, on Tuesday, the Ministry of Education created a three-member committee to investigate whether there was any wrongdoing by the college authorities in the MC College dormitory gang rape incident.

On Tuesday, the High Court formed an inquiry committee to look at the incident.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, meanwhile, has said that none of those involved in the incident will be spared.
