2 Housemaids Get Death in Ex-Eden Principal Murder Case

In a case filed over the murder of former Eden Mohila College principal Mahfuza Chowdhury Pervin, a special court in Dhaka sentenced two women to death.

On Sunday, in the presence of the accused, Judge Abu Jafar Md Kamruzzaman of the Dhaka 1st Speedy Trial Tribunal announced the verdict.

Ruma alias Reshma and Rikta Akter alias Swapna, two of Mahfuza Chowdhury Pervin's housemaids, are the death row convicts.

On February 10, 2019, police recovered Pervin 's body from her Sukanya Tower flat on Elephant Road in the capital.

Her husband, Ismat Kader Gama, filed a New Market Police Station murder case against three of the two housemaids, Ruma, alias Reshma, and Rikta Akter, alias Swapna, and Runu Begum, who brought the first two to that house.

The police subsequently succeeded in arresting all three of the suspects, of whom Reshma and Swapna had admitted to killing Pervin.

On July 21, the investigating officer and sub-inspector of the New Market Police Station filed an indictment against Reshma and Swapna, dropping the name of Runu Begum, as the police did not detect her involvement in the crime.

The court on February 9, 2020, framed charges against the two accused.
