4 Cases Filed against Irfan, Zahid for Possessing Firearms, Drugs

Four separate cases were filed against Irfan Selim, suspended Ward Councilor No. 30 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and his bodyguard Zahid under the Arms Act and the Narcotics Control Act, reports UNB.

Delwar Hossain, inspector (operation), of the Chwakbazar Police Station, filed two cases against each of them early Wednesday for possession of illicit firearms and narcotics, said Sub-Inspector Shah Newaz.

On Monday, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) mobile court sentenced Irfan and his bodyguard to one year in prison for carrying illegal walkie-talkies and drinking liquor.

Rab said that Irfan and Zahid were sentenced to six months in prison each for drinking liquor and another six months for unlawful possession of walkie-talkies.

Two firearms, 38 walkie-talkies and liquor were seized from Irfan’s house during a Rab drive.

Irfan was arrested Monday afternoon from his father's residence on Devdas Lane in Old Dhaka for "attacking" Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of the Bangladesh Navy.

Wasif filed a case against the attack at the Dhanmondi Police Station, identifying four people and some unidentified accused. The other three accused are — AB Siddique Dipu, 45, Md Zahid, 35, and Md Mizanur Rahman, 30. The four of them are now behind bars.

According to the event, a private car struck Wasif's motorcycle near Labaid Hospital in Dhanmondi at about 7:45 p.m. when he and his wife returned from Nilkhet to their Mohammadpur home.

Later, several people got out of the car and violently attacked the Navy and verbally insulted his wife.

Meanwhile, the government has suspended Irfan from the post of councillor for assaulting the Navy official.

The Local Government Department on Tuesday issued a notification in this regard.
