Eid-e-Miladunnabi Being Observed

Holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), is celebrated in the country on Friday with proper religious solemnity.

On this day in 570 AD, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Muhammad ( pbuh) was born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind. He died on the same day, too.

The day is a public holiday.

The Muslims across the country joined special prayers marking the day.

Various government and non-governmental organizations, including the Islamic Foundation, have carried out extensive projects to mark the day.

On Thursday, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheik Hasina released separate messages on the eve of Miladunnabi, greeting the countrymen and Muslims from all over the world.

Marking the day, Islamic Foundation has taken a fortnight-long special programme.

The curriculum involves the delivery of regular sermons on the life and works of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) after the prayers of Maghrib and Isha, the recitation of the Holy Quran, the chanting of Islamic songs, the recitation of poems and the organisation of seminars with Bangladesh Betar.

The most powerful prophet of Islam, held by his followers to be the Last Messenger of Allah, died on the same date in AD 633.

Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Radio will be airing special programmes highlighting the importance of the day.
