COVID-19 Death Toll Nears 6,000 in Bangladesh

The number of deaths from COVID-19 in Bangladesh rose to 5,983 on Tuesday as health officials reported another 17 more deaths from the disease in the last  24 hours.

Besides, the authorities also registered 1659 new coronavirus cases during the period, pushing the caseload to 4,12,647.

So far, 329,787 patients have recovered from the disease-- 1886 in the last 24 hours.

The fatality rate in Bangladesh is 1.45 percent, the Directorate General of Health Services said.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The number of cases reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 5,000 on Sept 22.

So far, 2,375,763 tests have been carried out, including 14,061 new tests, and 17.37 percent of them have turned out to be positive.

Bangladesh is seeing 2422.97 infections, 1936.43 recoveries and 34.13 deaths per million.
