3 to Die for Killing Housewife after Gang-Rape

A Shariatpur court has awarded death sentence to three people for killing a housewife after a gang-rape in 2019.

The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abdus Salam Khan handed down the verdict on Wednesday noon.

The convicts are Morshed Ukil, son of late Lutful Khabir, hailed from Moddhokodalpur village in Gosairhat Upazila in Shariatpur, Abdul Haque Mutain, son of late Khorshed Mutain from Char Gharowa village of Damudya Upazila and Md Jakir Hossain Mutain, son of late Majid Mutain from Daimi Char Bhoyra village.

According to the prosecution, Hawa Begum, 40, wife of Khokon Ukil of Charbhayra Ukilpara village in Damudya Upazila, went beside her house for a mobile recharge around 9:00 pm on January 20, 2019. That night, Morshed, Abdul Haque and Zakir found her alone and gang-raped her by turns.

Later, the rapists have hit the victim at head with a stick and strangled her to death and left her body in a house of Mojibar Chokdar.

The victim's husband Khokon Ukil filed a case against them with Damudya police station later on the day.
