Dhaka College Student Run Over by Train

The deceased Mesbah Uddin was the son of Wadud Hossain of the Ramgati Upazila district of Laxmipur, reports UNB.

Rakib Ul Hossain, officer-in-charge at Dhaka Railway Police Station, said 25-year-old Mesbah was a postgraduate student at Dhaka College's Political Science Department. "He'd live in the city's Central Road."

The accident occured around 5:30 pm when a train hit Mesbah, leaving him dead on the spot.

“Police recovered the body and sent it to the local hospital morgue for autopsy,” Rakib said.

“The details of the incident could not be known immediately. The real reason behind the incident can be disclosed after investigation.”

Casualties in train accidents appear to be a common phenomenon in the country – allegedly for a lack of proper maintenance by the authorities and negligence of the commoners.s

However, the country has seen an unusually high number of railway accidents in recent years.

In November last year a fatal collision occurred between Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita Express and Chattogram-bound Udayan Express on the Dhaka-Chattogram route at Mandbagh Railway Station in Kasba Upazila.

The horrific train crash in Brahmanbaria left at least 16 people dead and more than 100 injured.

However, the country has had far more fatal incidents than before.

At least 113 people, including 26 women and 11 children, were killed in railway accidents between January 1 and June 30 this year, says a July report – jointly prepared by Green Club of Bangladesh (GCB) and National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR).
