Cop-JCD Clash: 13 Accused on 5-Day Remand

A Dhaka court has placed 13 accused on a five-day remand each in a case filed over the clash between police and JCD in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday.

Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order on Monday.

The accused put on remand are Manjurul Alam, Ataur Rahman, Masud Rana, Shafiqul Islam,Shahiraz, Ahsan Habib Bhuiyan Razu, Kabir Hossain, Monwar Islam, Ariful Huq, Anisur Rahman Khandaker Anik, Abu Hayat Md Zulfikar, Atif Morshed and Ramzan.

Earlier in the day, the accused were produced before the court. Later, the investigation officer (IO) of the case and sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station Abdullah filed a petition seeking a 10-day remand for each accused.

On the other hand, defence lawyers submitted a petition seeking bail along with the cancellation of the remand prayer.

At that time, the prosecution held a hearing in favour of remand.

After hearing both the defence and the prosecution, the court granted five-day remand for each of them.
