Information Ministry Renamed

The government of Bangladesh has changed the name of the Ministry of Information into 'Ministry of Information and Broadcasting'.

Cabinet division issued a notification changing the name of the ministry on Monday. Later, it will be published through a gazette. The change has been made with immediate effect, sources from the cabinet division said.

According to the notification, the President has amended the name exercising the power conferred by Article 55 (6) of the Constitution.

Earlier on March 1, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud briefed the reporters that the authorities are mulling to restore the name "Ministry of Information and Broadcasting", which was introduced after Bangladesh's independence.
