UP Election: 27 Candidates Being Elected Uncontested

In the first phase of the Union Parishad (UP) elections, some 27 candidates are being elected uncontested as per the final list of the Election Commission (EC).

Sources at EC said in the first phase of elections to 371 UPs, a total of 1,752 candidates submitted nomination papers for the post of chairman. Of them, 1,099 are independent candidates.

Rest 653 candidates from 11 political parties have been nominated for chairman posts.

The BNP did not take part in the first phase of UP elections as per the prior declaration.  Although there are 39 registered political parties, some 11 parties declared their candidatures for the UP elections, sources added.
