Doctor Couple Held with Pistol and Bullets at Dhaka Airport

A doctor couple was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Thursday when they tried to board a domestic flight with a firearm and bullets without any announcement

Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan, Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, said the doctor couple was scheduled to leave Dhaka for Jashore on a US-Bangla flight at 9:00 am on Thursday.

He said usually when carrying firearms, a specific procedure has to be followed with a declaration before entering the airport. But they did not announce. While scanning, a pistol, a magazine, and five bullets were recovered from their possession. Later, they were handed over to law enforcement agencies.

Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) BM Farman Ali said the doctor couple had claimed to the police that they have a license for the weapon and forgot to announce the matter. The legal process is underway in this regard.
