‘Second Wife’ Lodges Rape Case against Hefazat Leader Mamunul

A woman whom Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh leader Mamunul Haque claimed to be his second wife filed a case against the Hefazat leader with Sonargaon police station in Narayanganj on Friday.

‘The woman lodged the case with our police station sometimes after 10:00 am alleging that Mamunul allured her to marry and had been raping her frequently for past two years,’ Sonargaon police officer-in-charge Mohammad Hafizur Rahman told media. 

Mamunul, arrested on April 18 at his madrassah at Mohammadpur in Dhaka in several cases of violence allegedly committed by Hefazat in late March and early April and in May 2013, is now facing interrogation in police custody.

On April 3, a group of people confined Mamunul Haque to a resort in Sonargaon while he was spending private time with a woman whom he claimed to be his ‘second wife’.

Later in the evening of the day, Hefazat activists snatched the Islamist leader with his ‘second wife’ from the resort and committed huge vandalism.

Mamunul is the joint secretary general of the recently dissolved Hefazat central committee.
