Dipu Moni Suggests Students to Go Beyond Textbooks

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has suggested parents not keep their children confined to select books enumerated in the syllabus.

Rather, the students should be imparted knowledge on art, culture, science and history, she added.

She was addressing a virtual programme organised by the Meherpur district administration marking the distribution of a publication on “Soto Tothye Jatir Pita”—a book pregnant with the information as to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Children are the ones to have borne the brunt of the Covid pandemic which wreaked havoc on socioeconomic life across the globe.

Bangladesh government has withheld academic activities with the physical participation of the students and teachers since the country’s first detection of the dreaded virus last year.

The education minister has emerged with an important suggestion to break the cycle of the monotony of the students who are bored at home.

To peruse a bright career requires a vast study on the part of the students, she said, adding that the guardians should inspire their kids to read travel stories, ICT and science books.

“Many of the successful persons in the world did not have higher degrees, but they were enlightened by reading books going beyond the syllabus.”

Since its inception, the Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to revamp the education sector in the light of liberation principles, she said.

The government is placing importance on vocational and technical education to generate skilled manpower catering to the global competition, she added.

Dr Dipu Moni also stressed the lessons which inculcate in the children the sense of honesty, sincerity, humanity and patriotism.

Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Mansur Alam Khan presided over the programme.

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain,  Chief Coordinator of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Narail- 2 lawmaker and national team cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Meherpur-2 lawmaker Mohammad Shahiduzzaman Khokon and Khulna divisional commissioner Ismail Hossain were present on the occasion.
