5 Killed As Truck Hits Auto-Rickshaw in Sylhet

Five people were killed as a truck hits a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Lalkhan area in Jaintapur Upazila of Sylhet.

The accident took place in the Ferry Ghat area of ​​the Upazila around 8:30 am on Sunday (May 2), reports media.

The deceased were identified as Hossain Ahmed, 35, son of late Arab Ali of Pakhibil area, Safia Begum, 29, wife of Jamal Miah, Sadia, 6, daughter of Jamal Miah and son Shahadat, 5 months, and Habibunnesa, 33, wife of late Hafiz Miah. The injured were identified as Zakaria, son of late Arjan Ali of Pakhibil area and Zakaria's wife Hasina Begum.

The injured have been shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Police said a CNG-powered autorickshaw carrying passengers suddenly hit the highway at Jaintapur Ferry Ghat area and a speeding truck crushed the autorickshaw. Four people died on the spot and one died on the way to the hospital.

Jaintapur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Dastagir confirmed the accident and said the deceased belonged to the same family. Among the dead were two children.
