Speedboat Crash in Padma: Owner Held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday arrested the owner of the speedboat in connection with a case filed over the speedboat crash in the Padma River near Banglabazar Ferry Ghat in Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur on May 3 that killed 26 people.

The arrestee is identified as Chan Miah alias Chandu.

Khandaker Al Moyeen, Legal and Media Wing Director of RAB, confirmed the arrest to the media on Sunday morning.

Further details regarding the arrest will be disclosed at a press conference later in the afternoon, he said.

Later, the sub-inspector of Kathalbari Naval Police Outpost Lokman Hossain filed the case with Shibchar police station on Tuesday morning (May 4).

The accused in the case are speedboat driver Shah Alam, owners Chandu and Rezaul and ghat leaseholder Shah Alam Khan.
