The Prime Minister's Office has yet to approve a proposal for an extension of the continuing countrywide lockdown until May 31.

Ministry of Public Administration sent the file to Prime Minister's Office as the officials were concerning a spike in coronavirus infections after Eid-ul-Fitr.

The ongoing lockdown is scheduled to expire on May 23.

Earlier, the government declared a countrywide lockdown on April 5 to combat the second wave of coronavirus, which was later prolonged until May 23.

However, the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 emphasized the necessity of preserving social isolation and hygiene while prolonging the current lockdown until the end of May.
