MP Flees after Being Chased by Enraged Locals

MP M Akhtaruzzaman of the Khulna-6 constituency was forced to flee Dashalia in Koyra upazila on Tuesday as his trawler being chased by enraged locals.

Despite MP Akhtaruzzaman's claims that the incident was false, witnesses testified that enraged individuals threw mud at him.

"There was no such instance of mud being thrown at me. When I arrived at the location this morning, four to five thousand individuals coated in mud urged the construction of a sustainable embankment," said the lawmaker. 

"Every year, they confront the devastation of embankment erosions, so frustration has prevailed among locals" he explained, adding, "Later, I too joined in their efforts of restoring the embankment."

The MP further said that "some Jamaat-led gang is conspiring against me."

Local Awami League leaders and police went to the scene at one point and brought the situation under control. After that, the MP gave a speech and attempted to join the citizen volunteers in the embankment repair work, but most of them left.
