The Education Ministry has prolonged its ongoing closure of the primary schools, higher secondary schools and colleges till 30 June.

"The Covid-19 situation deteriorated in some districts and lockdown has been imposed in many areas. Considering the health security of students, teachers, staff and guardians, and following advice of Covid-19 technical committee, the closure has been extended," said a press announcement of the ministry today.

Primary, secondary and higher secondary level institutions across the country were supposed to reopen on 13 June if the Covid-19 situation gets favorable.

But Covid-19 cases have increased in frontier areas. In some districts, the infection rate has risen alarmingly.

Bangladesh on Friday crossed the grim milestone of 13,000 deaths. However, the fatality rate remained unchanged at 1.58%.
