The High Court has directed to hold the recruitment process of six teachers in the philosophy department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) online till June 20. Besides, the court also asked to submit the documents related to the appointment of teachers within this period.

At the same time, the court fixed June 20 for the order of the writ petition challenging the validity of the appointment of the six teachers in the philosophy department online.

The preliminary hearing of the writ today, Tuesday (June 15), Justice M. Inayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman's Virtual High Court bench gave the order.

Barrister Anik R Haque and Advocate Syeda Nasrin appeared for the writ petition. On the other hand, Advocate Kumar Debul Dey appeared for the JU authorities. Deputy Attorney General Arvind Kumar Roy appeared for the state.

Earlier on June 10, the Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Dr. Syeda Nasrin filed a writ petition on behalf of four teachers. In the writ petition seeking suspension of the online oral examination, the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Chairman of UGC, Vice-Chancellor of JU, Registrar, and others have been made defendants.

According to the writ petition, amid a coronavirus situation where students are not getting the opportunity to participate in the classes, a hasty decision has been taken to recruit teachers through online oral exams.

Earlier, the university administration issued a notification for the appointment of six teachers in the philosophy department. Later, on June 12, the online selection board called for an oral exam. On June 9, eight teachers from the same department wrote a letter to the University Grants Commission (UGC) calling the appointment of the teacher on a student-free campus "malicious". However, the writ petition was filed as no proper action was taken even after that letter.
