Authorities on Wednesday imposed a week-long lockdown in Jibannagar Upazila of Chuadanga district to curb the spread of Covid-19, reports media.

The lockdown will remain in force till June 30 midnight.

The decision to enforce the lockdown was taken at an emergency meeting on Tuesday, presided over by Ali Azgarh Tagar, MP of Chuadanga-2 constituency.

During the lockdown, all business establishments, shops and eateries in the upazila will remain closed. However, local grocery stores and kitchen markets will be allowed to operate for only six hours in the morning to allow people to buy their daily essentials.

There will also be strict restrictions on public movement in the upazila. No vehicles will be allowed to ply on the roads during the lockdown. However, emergency service vehicles will remain out of the purview of the restrictions.

On June 15, the authorities imposed a 14-day lockdown in Damurhuda upazila, while a week-long lockdown was clamped in the Chuadanga Sadar municipal area and Alukdia union on June 20 to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
