The presence of hydrocarbons was found in the ground floor of Shawarma house in the capital's Moghbazar, said Abul Kalam Azad, Chief Explosives Inspector of the explosives department.

"Immediately after the blast and today, we visited the blast site in Moghbazar again," he said. During the analysis with our equipment, we found the presence of hydrocarbons in the debris.

He added that hydrocarbons are a component of natural gas. However, the occurrence of such a large explosion from gas alone is unusual. The real reason will be known subject to investigation. We are now collecting data.

He made the remarks after inspecting the site of the blast at Shawarma house on Monday (June 28th).

Asked if it was an accident or sabotage, the Chief Inspector of Explosives said, "We are analyzing everything, including the gas leak." It can also happen from electric sparks. There are many more issues involved here. Electrical explosion, cylinder leakage, and explosion may occur. However, the real cause of the explosion can be said subject to investigation, no matter how small.

He said a three-member committee headed by the Deputy Chief Explosives Inspector has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee has been asked to submit a report within seven working days. We are working with other agencies, including the fire service and police, to investigate the explosion. However, it is not possible to say anything right now. Because we are definitely not finding anything in the wreckage. Once the investigation is over we will be able to say something definite.

In response to a question, Abul Kalam Azad said that due to gas leakage, a big explosion can occur if it comes in contact with flaming or fire. It can also be caused by a match or a cigarette fire or an electrical spark. However, we did not get that much presence of gas in here. Because it flew in the open space after the incident.

The Wireless Gate area of Dhaka's Maghbazar was shaken by the loud sound of an explosion around 7:30 pm on Sunday (June 28). The blast shattered the glass of dozens of nearby buildings, including the Aarang and the Bishal center.

Eight people were killed and more than 50 were injured and burnt in the incident. Earlier, at night, Dhaka Police Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam visited the spot and told reporters that seven people had been killed.
