The government's weeklong strict restrictions on coronavirus infections began on Thursday (July 1st). Police detained 14 people from Mohammadpur, Ramna and Shahbag areas for roaming on the streets without any urgent need.

The seven-day strict restrictions will last until midnight on July 7. A total of 21 restrictions were imposed on Wednesday (June 30) through a notification from the Cabinet Division.

Harun Aur Rashid, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ramna Division, confirmed the matter and said that two persons were detained from Sugandha Junction (Sugandha More) and two from Shahbagh Junction of Ramna Police Station in the morning for "wandering unnecessarily". Action will be taken against them for disobeying government orders.

The streets of the capital have been quite empty since morning. No public transport was seen running on the main roads of the capital. Rickshaws and private vehicles were seen plying on various roads including Farmgate, Bangla Motor, Magbazar, Khilgaon, Mohammadpur and Panthapath. Law enforcement was stationed on these roads. Police vehicles are also patrolling.

Mohammadpur Zone Assistant Commissioner Mahin Faraji said, "We have detained 10 people so far on charges of unnecessary movement." Among them, seven were detained from Rayerbazar and three from three road junctions (Tin Rasta More).

Members of the law-enforcement forces have been seen interrogating a few people who took to the streets at various road junctions. Rickshaw-Goers have been seen questioning more.

At a checkpost in front of Bardem Hospital, RAB executive magistrate Palash Kumar Basu said the search had been going on since morning. So far, most of the people I have met have come out in need. Some have gone out for treatment, some will go abroad.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police said in a press conference on Wednesday (June 30th) that if anyone breaks the rules and roaming on the streets without urgent need, a case will be filed and arrests will be made if necessary.

Recently, the coronavirus detection and death rate have been on the rise across the country, including in various bordering districts of Bangladesh. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said that they are in a tough position to ensure this year's lockdown.
