Couple Torture Housemaid with Electric Mosquito Bat

A housemaid named Sweety was scorched with an electric mosquito bat, Jahangir Hossain, sub-inspector of police told the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Sunday (July 4th).

Meanwhile, in a case filed under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code at Shahbagh Police Station for torturing a domestic worker. The investigating officer requested to keep the accused couple Tanvir Ahsan and his wife Advocate Nahid in custody.

In the application, he said, the couple brought Sweety 9 months ago, for helping with household work. They later beat him on various pretexts that she could not work. On July 1, at around 10 pm, they took off Sweety's clothes and burned the soft flesh of her body with an electric mosquito-bat. The couple also hit the two arms, legs, knees and various parts of the body of the victim.

The injury caused blood to clot in her body. When Sweetie tried to escape to save her life, they locked her in the bathroom. At around 10 pm on July 3, Sweety fled the house and took shelter in the neighbor's house. Later, Yusuf, the owner of the house, informed the people of the area about the incident and they informed the police about the couple.
