Chattogram police arrested 18 Rohingyas who had apparently fled the Bhashan Char refugee camps on Sunday.

Four men, six women, and eight children have been arrested. Locals apprehended them and handed them over to police in Chattogram's Mirsarai upazila.

One mother is pregnant, and several children are sick, according to Mirsarai Bangabandhu Economic Zone Security In-charge and Industrial Police Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ariful Islam.

Locals kept the Rohingyas in the economic zone area before handing them over to the police, according to Zorarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Nur Hossain Mamun.

The detainees said that they arrived in the economic zone region on a reserve trawler from Bhasan Char in an effort to reach the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar.

Earlier, police apprehended 14 Rohingyas from the same area on June 22. They paid Tk 20,000 per person to travel to Malaysia through brokers, but the brokers abandoned them at Zorarganj Marine Drive and fled.
