State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said officials and employees of the sea and land ports under the Ministry of Shipping will be vaccinated against COVID-19 from July 14 as per the government's priority list.

"In the first phase, 12,000 COVID-19 vaccines will be given on a priority basis while the rest will be vaccinated as soon as possible", he said at a press briefing in the conference room of the ministry.

The state minister further said the concerned officials and employees of the sea and land ports will be able to work safely through vaccination, reports BSS.

"If they are infected with coronavirus, the work of the port will be unstable," he said.

Bangladesh got COVID-19 vaccines from the beginning in the list of 30 countries in the world through the relentless effort of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.

Regarding the criticism on the vaccine, the state minister said, it is not right to make political statements about the vaccine.

Everyone should avoid making such statements because the government is working for the people and the country, he said.
